Class descriptions
Pre Comp is an introduction to competitive programming. It is for gymnasts who have an interest in moving to competitive Gymcats. Gymnast must be at least 7 years of age and have basic skills such as a cartwheel and a handstand. They will learn the skills needed to potentially move into the competitive stream and be assessed on an ongoing basis. Completion of this class DOES NOT guarantee entrance into the competitive stream, but it is a great place to start!
NEW** - The XCEL program
XCEL is an alternative competitive program offering individual flexibility to coaches and gymnasts. The goal of XCEL is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels with the opportunity for a rewarding competitive gymnastics experience. Athletes will compete Optional routines fulfilling 4 Special Requirements on each apparatus. This program will give gymnasts the opportunity to train and compete skills and routines that suit their strengths rather than competing compulsory content as is in the JO program. The XCEL Program offers five different levels; Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.
Participants need to be a minimum age of 13 years old and have competitive experience.
Competitive Program
Gymnastics Canada has adopted the JO Program to provide direction and foster competition for different age groups of girls and young women of various levels of ability and commitment. The CPP Program consists of 10 levels – Manitoba Gymnastics uses this tool as a guide to provide programming for female gymnasts in Manitoba and allows gymnasts at Level 3 and higher to compete and try to qualify for Provincial Championships annually.
Participants need to be invited to the competitive program.
Recreational Program
Recreational gymnastics focuses on gross motor development and coordination. This program is a fun based learning opportunity.
The recreational program is open to all athletes. (Girls and boys)
